WILDLIFE IN WYNDEMERE

Wyndemere residents respect and follow the laws of Hilton Head Island regarding protection of its wildlife.
It is illegal to harass, feed, or throw objects at alligators. They are living organisms that warrant respect, and it is not productive to annoy them. Molesting, harassing, injuring or killing alligators is punishable by law with fines up to $2500 and 30 days in jail.

Residents or guests that are caught harassing or abusing alligators, or any other wildlife on Wyndemere property, will be fined by the Regime and reported to the proper authorities.

The lagoon and its wildlife are for all residents to enjoy observing from a distance. Alligators are known to sun on the banks of the lagoon, and residents should be cautious when walking near the lagoon.  Fishing is not permitted, nor is throwing or shooting objects into and around the lagoon. Offenders are subject to Wyndemere fines up to $500. Parents are liable for the actions of their minor children, and for their safety, must accompany their children at all times when they are behind the buildings. Property owners and other residents are responsible for the actions of their guests. Please help us keep our residents and wildlife safe.

Anyone who witnesses the harassment or feeding of alligators, is encouraged to make a confidential call to the Beaufort County Sheriff's office at 843.592.0789, or any Wyndemere Board member.
